6/11/2014

Neil, our naturalist, woke us up at 5:30 am and off we went upstream to a little creek which we followed for a few hundred yards and disembarked at a muddy trail. We followed the trail for about an hour looking at plants along the jungle floor and the tall trees overhead. We saw a lot of different kinds for ants, spiders, etc., and were serenaded by howler monkeys without seeing them. David posited that someone from the tree nursery section of Home Depot must have been busy planting all those house plants found on the jungle floor. As we headed back to the boat for lunch, it began to rain hard.

After lunch, the rains continued so David and I slept in while other two guests went off to fish piranhas.

After dinner, we returned to the trail where we had made the morning jungle walk, this time with our flashlights. We saw a number of tree frogs, spiders, ants, two jungle rats and a very thin black and white striped snake.  At night we covered just a short distance since we spent so much time searching the trees and jungle floor for interesting things.
